For those of you who do not read past news headlines, the corona beer is not related to the deadly virus that has taken the lives of more than 130 individuals in China.

As pointed out by USA Today, Google search for ‘corona beer virus’ has spiked in the past few days. Google Trends has also tweeted the spike in the search term, making it evident that a significant number of people have doubted the link between the virus and its namesake beer. According to Google Trends, several states, including Arizona, South Carolina, Virginia, Nevada, and Colorado, have been actively getting their doubts pertaining to the relationship between corona beer and the Wuhan coronavirus cleared.

The coronaviruses were discovered in the early 1960s and the first two of them were an infectious bronchitis virus that affected chickens and a couple of other viruses that were isolated from the nasal cavities of individuals suffering from a common cold.

The term coronavirus was derived from the Latin word 'corona,' which meant crown or halo. Corona refers to the characteristic appearance of the infective form of the virus when seen under electron microscope. In English, the anatomical term ‘corona’ has been used to refer to body parts that resemble a crown.

The first-ever reported case of the virus was on Dec. 8 in Wuhan city, central China. Several other cities in China have been quarantined as the virus has infected more than 6000 people and taken the lives of 132 people. Apart from the U.S., seventeen other countries worldwide have been reporting cases of coronavirus since then, Business Insider reported.

Corona Extra is a pale lager manufactured in Mexico by Cerveceria Modelo and gets exported to several other countries apart from the United States. Being one of the top-selling beers throughout the world, corona beer has been enjoyed by people alongside a wedge of lime or lemon in the bottle’s neck for flavor.

The corona beer is available in various bottled presentations, draught version and canned forms in several markets. According to the manufacturer, the beverage contains barley malt, corn, hops, yeast, antioxidants, and propylene glycol alginate.
