Coronavirus-Infected Japanese Man Who Visited Bars To 'Spread The Virus' Dies
A Japanese man, who had visited two bars after testing positive for coronavirus, reportedly died at a hospital on Wednesday.
On March 4, the man, believed to be in his 50’s, tested positive for COVID-19 and was sent home by medical personnel. He was asked to remain indoors until they found appropriate medical facilities to treat infected patients. However, the man decided to take a taxi to two bars in the area before returning home.
According to Fuji News Network, he had left the house after reportedly telling a family member, “I am going to spread the virus.”
He first took a taxi to Izakaya Bar and later walked to another bar where he informed the patrons that he was tested positive for coronavirus. After hearing the man’s confession, the staff alerted a local health center and police officers dressed in protective suits arrived at the restaurant to arrest the man. However, by the time the officials arrived, the man had already returned home in a taxi.
Following the incident, both the establishments were sterilized, and the staff members and customers present at the scene were tested for COVID-19.
A female staff member who worked at the second bar visited by the man tested positive for coronavirus on March 12. The owner of the pub had lodged a complaint later that day after which, the police were investigating the incident on suspicion of disruption of business.
The exact cause of the man’s death was not revealed, however, it was reported that he was diagnosed with a severe chronic illness prior to contracting the deadly virus.
