Coronavirus Update: Nextdoor App With Features To Assist Neighbors During COVID-19 Pandemic

Nextdoor, a social networking app to connect members of local communities, has added an interactive map that allows neighbors to offer assistance during the coronavirus pandemic.
In a blog post, the company has announced two new features that will be released as part of the Nextdoor app – Help Map and Nextdoor Groups.
According to Nextdoor’s blog post, the Help Map is “an interactive map of your neighborhood where you can mark yourself as someone who can pitch in for neighbors who need it.” This feature will be available in the U.S.
The Help Map will list the services you can provide in these testing times. This new feature will be available after you update the Nextdoor app to the latest version. Help Map is under the More menu and you can choose to view the map or offer services to neighbors.
The California-based tech company is also releasing out of beta the Groups features to users across the world. Groups by Nextdoor enables communities to organize around interests, helping out others and more, Tech Crunch reported.
Meanwhile, the California State Public Health Officer and Director of the California Department of Public Health announced all individuals living in the state to remain at home or their place of residence. However, people “ needed to maintain continuity of operation of the federal critical infrastructure sectors, critical government services, schools, childcare, and construction, including housing construction” are exempted from this order.
The order came into effect on Thursday, March 19, 2020. Essential state and local government functions will remain open to provide government services and programs. Meanwhile, essential services, which include gas stations, pharmacies, banks, laundry services, food stores, will also remain operational for the public.
Dine-in restaurants, entertainment venues, bars and nightclubs, fitness studios, gyms, convention centers, public events, and gatherings will be closed.
More than 10,000 people have died in the coronavirus pandemic and over 240,000 people tested positive. People are advised to practice social distancing and self-isolation to prevent any spread of the coronavirus.
