The ongoing coronavirus outbreak has hit businesses as well as the entertainment industry hard. From events getting canceled and gigs getting postponed, the coronavirus threat has shaken the world. Pearl Jam took to Twitter to share that it will be postponing the first part of the upcoming tour.
Pearl Jam is scheduled to tour North America to celebrate the band’s much-awaited eleventh studio album, Gigaton. The official tour website reveals that the shows from March 18 to April 19 are postponed and the new dates will be announced later.
“It is with deep frustration and regret that we are forced to make this most unfortunate of announcements...This scheduled first leg of our PJ/Gigaton tour will need to be postponed and shows rescheduled for a later date,” the band tweeted on March 10 announcing the postponement.
In a series of tweets, the band said it was concerned about the forthcoming tour in the light of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.
The band members stated they are informed that being in large groups increases the chances of the coronavirus spread. And, unfortunately, the band encourages communing in large groups, which is an essential part of enjoying a musical concert.
The official Twitter handle of Pearl Jam ensured that the ticket master will get in touch with people who purchased tickets for the canceled gigs. The band assured that “the current tickets will be honored for the new dates.”
Meanwhile, the band’s new album, Gigaton will be released on March 27, 2020. Mike McCready explained that making this album was “a long journey” for them. “It was emotionally dark and confusing at times, but also an exciting and experimental road map to musical redemption. Collaborating with my bandmates on Gigaton ultimately gave me greater love, awareness, and knowledge of the need for human connection in these times,” McCready said in a statement.
