Cory Booker Defended By Public After Trump’s ‘Going To Be Nice’ Comment In Latest Interview
The target of President Trump’s latest claims about how Joe Biden would harm the United States has been given quite a bit of love on social media since his name was mentioned.
New Jersey Senator Cory Booker was named when the President appeared on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” Monday night, where he discussed the current situations with violent protests and riots in Portland, Oregon and Kenosha, Wisconsin, and where he differed from his official opponent on the presidential race.
However, while discussing his reversal of President Obama’s Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) rule and repeating his claims that low-income housing was hurting suburban communities, Trump also brought up Booker, stating he would be the one to help Biden bring that housing back, which would also raise crime in those areas.
“So you have this beautiful community in the suburbs, including women, right? Women, they want security,” Trump said. “I ended where they build low-income housing project right in the middle of your neighborhood. I ended it. If Biden, gets in, he already said it’s going to go at a much higher rate than ever before, and who’s going to be in charge of it? Cory Booker, that’s going to be nice.”
However, the comment about Booker is one that was then heavily criticized on social media on Tuesday, with many believing that the President singling out Booker was a racist comment since Booker is Black.
Trump keeps bringing up Cory Booker when referencing low income housing and crime and suburb security because he is linking it all to race with an age old racist diatribe that Black people will take over and move in and come for women. pic.twitter.com/MeVPsKtrKS

Trump using Cory Booker of all people as a shorthand for “scary black man” would be funny if he weren’t actually president. At this point if you’re still in denial about who Trump is you want to be.

Cory Booker is probably one of the nicest guys in politics, but he’s a big black man, so of course Donald Trump is using him to scare people.

I wish Cory was my neighbor
Others called out the comment by stating that Booker is known for having a reputation as a kind and nice person, which not only made the comment uncalled for but also made him someone people would love to have as a neighbor, regardless of the color of his skin.
I’m a far-too-online Dem, of course, so this isn’t meant for me. But I’m also a white suburban woman, and I cannot even conceive how I’m supposed to be afraid that Cory Booker will destroy my town? https://t.co/5lUAtKXmDy

Maybe he tells too many dad jokes. But guessing most Americans would sure as heck rather have Cory as neighbor than one of the Trumps.@CoryBooker

Cory Booker has Big Friendly Vegan Manager at Trader Joe's Energy. Only someone as racist as Donald Trump could actually believe he could scare people with Cory Booker

There were also comments regarding that suburban women likely wouldn’t mind seeing Booker come into their neighborhoods at all for other reasons.

Good Morning! Can Cory Booker come to my suburban neighborhood with these jeans on. Please and thank you. pic.twitter.com/G8biQJ6jXa

*whisper* If Cory Booker takes a trip to the suburbs, a whole of white "suburban housewives" are going to end up voting for Biden.

Don't tell Trump. https://t.co/WDxOx9Rjdf
This isn’t the first time the President’s comments about ending the AFFH rule, or Booker’s potential involvement in helping reinstate it in a Biden presidency, have come under fire. He was previously mocked on Twitter in August, with some calling his idea of the “Suburban Housewife” outdated.
Booker has not released a statement about the President Trump’s comments.
