With the Washington Redskins (6-4) losing starting quarterback Alex Smith for the season, some might wonder if Colin Kaepernick might finally get another shot at an NFL job.

Reports, however, indicate Washington will go in a different direction as it tries to hold onto its lead in the NFC East.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Redskins would bring in free agent quarterbacks Mark Sanchez, E.J. Manuel and T.J. Yates for workouts Monday. All three quarterbacks were on an NFL roster in 2017.

With Smith out, the Redskins have only one healthy quarterback on the roster.

Longtime backup Colt McCoy is expected to be the starter going forward. McCoy filled in well for Washington as a part-time starter in 2014, completing more than 70 percent of his passes and finishing with a 96.4 passer rating in five games.

In a 23-21 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday, McCoy led the Redskins to two touchdown drives. The 32-year-old finished with 54 passing yards on six completions. McCoy also rushed for 35 yards.

There was no indication by Washington that it would give Kaepernick a workout.

ESPN reported in 2017 that team owner Dan Snyder was personally opposed to players kneeling during the national anthem to institutional racism.

Kaepernick, who spent his entire career with the San Francisco 49ers, has not played in the NFL since 2016. He was set to work out for the Seattle Seahawks in April but it was later postponed.
