Could Trump Have Coronavirus? White House Says He Doesn't Need Test, Trump Has Been In Contact With Infected People
Alongside consistent criticism of the White House's handling of the coronavirus outbreak in the U.S., many have expressed concern over Donald Trump’s potential exposure to infectious virus. Most recently, Trump interacted with Fabio Wajngarten, an aide to Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, at an event held at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, sparking new concerns.
In response, White House doctor Sean P. Conley issued a memo stating that the President did not require a test for Covid-19. In the memo, Conley insists that Trump’s interactions with coronavirus-positive individuals have been “low-risk.”
“All interactions occurred before any symptom onset,” Conley’s memo reads. “These interactions would be categorized as LOW risk for transmission per CDC (U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) guidelines, and as such, there is no indication for home quarantine at this time. Additionally, given the President himself is without symptoms, testing for COVID-19 is not currently indicated.”
Trump reportedly shared a table at Mar-a-Lago with another individual that tested positive last weekend. He has also had contact with Republican House members Doug Collins and Matt Gaetz, both of whom have tested positive for the virus. Against the advice of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the President has continued to shake hands with people.
Despite Conley’s memo, Trump has stated that he, along with other officials who work with him, has taken a test for coronavirus. The results of this test, taken on Friday, are currently unknown.
“I decided I should based on the press conference yesterday ― people were asking did I take the test,” Trump said during a Saturday press conference.
According to the World Health Organization, patients in Trump’s age range face a heightened threat from Covid-19.
