“Counting On” star Joy-Anna Duggar revealed that she and husband, Austin Forsyth, battled COVID-19 while she was pregnant last year.
The reality star, 23, made the revelation while answering fan questions on her Instagram Story Monday. Duggar said she and Forsyth tested positive for the coronavirus when she was still carrying their daughter, Evelyn, whom they welcomed in August, Us Weekly noted.
Duggar said the symptoms they experienced included “body aches, slight fever” and the loss of taste and smell. But she added that they “thankfully … recovered quickly.”
Duggar announced that she was pregnant with her second child on Instagram in March 2020, saying that both she and the baby are healthy despite “quite the crazy journey.” The couple, who are also parents to 2-year-old son Gideon, announced their daughter's arrival five months later.
“We have been dreaming of this day and are so happy to announce that our baby girl arrived August 21st at 2:12 pm weighing 8lbs 5oz and is 19.5 long!” Duggar captioned a photo of her, Forsyth and the newborn at the hospital, adding, “She has the best personality, is easy going and loves to be held!”
Duggar and her husband later said they chose the name Evelyn for their daughter because it was “perfect and elegant.”
Weeks after giving birth, the 23-year-old was plagued by malicious rumors, including speculation that she was pregnant again.
In October, one naysayer commented on Duggar’s photo and noted that the mom of two had puffy fingers despite delivering Evelyn two months prior. Another pointed out that the reality star wasn’t wearing her wedding band.
“No, my fingers were swollen during pregnancy and I haven’t put my wedding band back on,” Duggar clapped back.
Duggar and Forsyth also dealt with naysayers who criticized them for how they held their baby in family photos the former shared on Instagram.
Some fans slammed Duggar for how she carried her newborn and feared that she might drop the baby. Others, meanwhile, defended the mom and explained that she wouldn’t let any harm near her daughter.
“Haha! Thank you for your concern! I was holding Evy and then Gideon was trying to hold my hand! I wasn’t about to drop her tho!” Duggar responded.
