"Counting On" star Jinger Duggar got candid about her older brother Josh Duggar's scandal and how it affected their family ahead of the release of her and husband Jeremy Vuolo's new book.
The eldest son of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar made headlines in 2015 after he admitted to molesting five minor girls, including four of his sisters, when he was a teenager. He then confessed to cheating on his wife, Anna Duggar, following an Ashley Madison data breach and entered rehab. The Duggar family's response was documented on their show, "Counting On."
Jinger said in a new interview with Us Weekly that "walking through that that season, it was one of the hardest times of our lives."
She also shared that the scandal helped her realize who her real friends were because many did not want to associate with them after the controversy.
"It’s in those times where it’s not popular to be your friend, seeing how they responded really showed us the love of Christ through them and through their friendships," Jinger said.
"I think that was something that stood out to me and I saw the friends who came so close and were like, ‘Hey, I’ll just sit with you,’ ‘I’ll bring you a meal or hang out with you if you want to.’ In those times I thought, ‘Man, that really meant the most," she continued.
Although it had been a very difficult time for the Duggar family, Jinger acknowledged that there was a silver lining. According to the reality star, it brought her family closer.
"Our family was way closer because of that, and in spite of that, I guess you’d say," Jinger explained. "I will never forget how I felt in that moment. And I think even everything that happens in our lives — because we’re in the public eye — it makes it more challenging because then it’s not just dealing with these things inwardly, but you have to give an answer to the world. That makes it a much tougher thing to walk through."
Anna and Josh, who have six children, worked on their marriage after the scandal and his six-month stint in a faith-based treatment center.
Meanwhile, Jinger and her husband Jeremy celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary in November, marking the special occasion with sweet posts on Instagram. Jinger shared their wedding photo and gushed over her husband.
"Baby, I couldn’t imagine life without you!" she wrote. "You treat me like a queen, keep me laughing, and are always faithful to point me to Christ! I love you more than words could possibly ever describe. When I am with you there’s no place I’d rather be!"
Jinger and Jeremy's new book, "The Hope We Hold: Finding Peace in the Promises of God," is set to hit shelves on May 4.
