“Counting On” star Joy-Anna Duggar has responded to criticism over how she held her baby in a new family photo.
The photo, which showed Joy-Anna cradling 1-month-old daughter Evelyn as 2-year-old son Gideon and husband Austin Forsyth stood by her side, was uploaded Sunday on Instagram with the caption: “Church this morning!” But while many fans gushed over the adorable family picture, some naysayers took issue with the way Joy-Anna carried her younger child.
“Why is she carrying that baby like that looks like she fixing to drop her!” a netizen commented.
“Haha! Thank you for your concern! I was holding Evy and then Gideon was trying to hold my hand! I wasn’t about to drop her tho!” Joy-Anna wrote with a smiling emoji.
Avid supporters of Joy-Anna rushed to her defense, explaining that she would never let any harm come to her children.
“[L]ighten up Joy is an awesome Mom stop picking her apart spread love and build her up not break her down,” a fan wrote.
Another one pointed out that Joy-Anna’s other hand supported the baby from the bottom as well so her daughter was never in any danger.
Other netizens, however, noticed that the family didn’t wear any face covering, with one saying, “I hope it's a small group and you all are wearing masks.” One slammed the couple for taking Evelyn out without wearing protection against the coronavirus.
“You took that new baby to church and none of you are wearing masks!! Shame on you,” a person wrote.
However, some of Joy-Anna’s fans suggested that the family may have just removed their face masks for the photo.
This comes months after their family grew from three to four following Evelyn's arrival. In August, Joy-Anna revealed the new addition to their family on social media with a selfie of her, Austin and the baby.
“Getting to spend that quiet, quality time with her through the night has been SO special!” the mom of two wrote.
The couple also shared what transpired in the hours before Joy-Anna gave birth in a video uploaded on YouTube. She revealed that she went into labor on the night of Aug. 20, but they welcomed Evelyn the following day.
