#CoupleGoals: Married Off-Duty Police Officers Stop Restaurant Robbery
KEY POINTS
- Two married off-duty police officers stopped a potential armed robbery while having their date night
- Detective Chase McKeown and Officer Nicole McKeown of Elizabethtown Police Department were eating at Raising Cane's when the suspect walked in
- The couple chased Justin Carter through downtown Louisville and was later arrested
Despite being off-duty, two married police officers spent a portion of their date night stopping what could be a deadly armed robbery over the weekend.
Detective Chase McKeown and his wife, Officer Nicole McKeown of Elizabethtown Police Department were celebrating a post-Valentine's Day date on February 15 at Raising Cane's when a man came storming in and demanded for the restaurant's money.
In a surveillance footage released by the Louisville Metro Police Tuesday, the suspect, who wore a surgical mask and a black hooded sweater, threatened staff with a gun while pointing at the cash register.

At this point, the McKeowns knew that they had to intervene.
“That's where the repetitiveness and that training kicks in,” Nicole told Wave 3. She added they have been trained to respond to situations such as these and that any other officer – whether off-duty or otherwise – would act out of instinct.
“When it comes to those people's lives being in danger, I feel like any other officer here would have done the exact same thing,” she said.

Chase on the other hand echoed the sentiments of his wife and told the outlet they didn't think twice about doing their duties as law enforcers.
“It was a matter of, this is happening, we're trained to act, we acted. That's all there is to it,” he said.
The McKeowns are married for only six months.
The couple chased the gunman, which was later identified as 30-year-old Justin Carter, through downtown Louisville and was later arrested with the help of local authorities, said NBC News, citing a statement from the Louisville Metro Police Department.
Video released- Justin Carter walked into Raising Cane's wearing a mask, armed with a gun - demanded cash from one of the employees. What he didn't know is that two married Elizabethtown police officers were enjoying date night in a nearby booth. Watch .. https://t.co/YjfxZDGCi9
