A video of a crab smoking a cigarette went viral after it was shared on Twitter. Many social media users expressed shock and anger to see the crustacean smoke a lit cigarette butt someone threw away.

The video was shared on Twitter by user @naturelovesrk. In the clip, a crab can be seen holding a cigarette and taking a puff from it. It later crawls away while holding the cigarette butt in its claw.

"Another thing to see in 2020 is A Crab Smoke Cigarette," the video is captioned.

One user wrote, "Cancer taking a cancerous puff. This is like a bad dream. Our wastage being picked by crab. We can spoil any ecosystem with our attitude."

The video garnered tens of thousand views. Most users were not impressed by the clip and expressed anger at the video.

"It appears to me that someone has purposely tried to see the fun by throwing a lit cigarette. Not a good sign," one user wrote. Another wrote, "This is disheartening to see."

Someone noted, "Crab is the symbol of Cancer..." Yet another added, "This very bad and a big shame for those do this."

While there was no confirmation as to who shot the video, an Indian media outlet said it was taken by a group of friends on a beach. The place where the video was shot also remains unclear.

Last year, a photo of a mother bird feeding a cigarette butt to her baby at a beach in Florida had gone viral. The picture was captured by Largo resident Karen Mason at St Pete's Beach in Pinellas County.

"If you smoke, please don’t leave your butts behind," Mason had written, adding, "This Skimmer chick was offered a cigarette butt by its parent. It’s time we cleaned up our beaches and stopped treating them like one giant ashtray."
