Crash ends capture of convict Robert Maday, witness describes scene
Robert Maday, a dangerous Illinois convict who escaped on Thursday was captured in West Chicago Friday noon after he crashed when trying to escape police in a Volkswagen Jetta he hijacked.
Maday, 39 was armed and had hijacked a Jetta from a woman Friday morning. The woman identified him and called police describing the car and that he was wearing blue jeans, a green t-shirt and a white baseball cap with lettering. Police spotted the car and chased him, the Chicago Sun Times reported. The persecution ended with the crash.
He clipped the Jeep and then he hit the pole. The pole flipped up like a toy. Then he went through the bushes, then all of a sudden, the cops came with their guns drawn, Nicole Bratko, a witness, told the paper,
Maday was complaining of back pain after the crash, according to CBS today. He was in police custody an taken to a Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, the network reported.
Maday had escaped Thursday as he overpowered two law investigators while his hands were handcuffed and legs were shackled in a car.
