‘Criminal Minds’ Season 13 Spoilers: When Will Morgan Appear? Shemar Moore Returns
Derek Morgan is coming back to the BAU in “Criminal Minds” Season 13. Unfortunately, it’ll be a quick visit.
CBS announced Thursday that Shemar Moore will reprise his breakthrough role as Derek Morgan in episode 5. The alum returns to his former job when Penelope (Kirsten Vangsness) needs him by her side.
“Morgan returns to the BAU to help Penelope Garcia deal with a case that has affected her emotionally,” the synopsis teases.
While it isn’t clear exactly what the case will be, it looks like Garcia will be grateful for his presence. The two are seen hugging in a photo from the episode.
Moore was an original cast member on the CBS legal drama, which started in 2005. He left the show in 2016 after playing Morgan in over 250 episodes.
Although Moore posted a video on Instagram where he says that his episode of “Criminal Minds” airs Nov. 1, CBS confirms that it’s actually a week earlier. Moore’s episode airs Wednesday, Oct. 25 on CBS, just a week before his new drama on the network premieres.
Moore is starring in “S.W.A.T.,” a police drama loosely based on the ‘70s show of the same name. However, when Moore left “Criminal Minds,” he didn’t know that another CBS drama would come so soon. After 11 years, he just wanted to take a nice break.
“I went on vacation to Sydney, Australia. I lost myself. I got away from the business. I was like, ‘I’m chilling,’” Moore told Parade. “Then all of a sudden, I got this wonderful, personal letter from [executive producer] Shawn Ryan, saying, ‘We see something in you,’ followed by [CBS Entertainment President] Glenn Geller, ‘We see something in you. We have a project.’ So I sat down with these gentlemen, and they broke it down to me, and I was like, ‘Wow.’”
In the new TV show, Moore plays Hondo, and it sounds like the cop isn’t trying to be a hero. He’s just trying to do what’s right.
“Hondo is a reluctant hero. He didn’t ask to be the top. He knows he’s good at what he does,” the actor explained. “He comes with a skill set that’s incredible, he’s an ex-Marine. He’s not looking for a fight, but if you try to pick a fight, it’s a problem. It’s a problem and he’s loyal, but he’s also willing to bend the rules in order to find a happy middle out of compassion and for justice for the people, but it’s a fine line for him, because he comes from the community. The community always puts pressure on him to prove that he hasn’t sold out or forgotten where he came from.”
“Criminal Minds” Season 13 airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EDT on CBS. “S.W.A.T.” Season 1 premieres Thursday, Nov. 2 at 10 p.m. EDT on CBS.
