KEY POINTS

  • A striker could beat Cristiano Ronaldo in Serie A ratings
  • Christian Eriksen is now the most valuable player in Europe
  • Ronaldo is still bound to make history in 2020

A promising striker could top Cristiano Ronaldo as the best Serie A player.

In just roughly a year-and-a-half, Ronaldo has provided Juventus an array of value-for-money performances. At 34, “CR7” has proven that he isn’t going nowhere and will continue to break records in the future. However, Atalanta striker Josip Ilicic recently closes in to possibly beat Ronaldo as the best Serie A player today.

According to WhoScored, which rated the performances of 11 players last weekend from Europe's top five leagues, with additional information about their Football Index share prices, Ilicic was hailed “player of the week.”

The 31-year-old garnered a perfect WhoScored “10 rating,” his third in a league game this season after netting 3 goals against Torino. His seasonal rating in Serie A is now 7.82, closing in on Ronaldo, who is currently sitting at the no. 1 spot with 7.88.

Another player to skip the Portuguese superstar is former Spurs star Christian Eriksen. The 27-year-old instantly becomes most valuable player in Serie A ahead of international superstars Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala and Romelu Lukaku.

According to Transfermarkt's data, Eriksen instantly topped the table of Italy's most valuable players after sealing a £17 million ($22,448,762) move to Inter Milan from Tottenham.

According to The Sun, the said values were generated by the crowdsourcing website “Transfermarkt” who receive user evaluations from registered members who must show the justification behind their assessment.

Judges then create the final market value figure by analyzing the user generated data and considering other variables and their importance, such as age and contract length.

Despite not being the most valued player in Seria A, Ronaldo is still a top grade player in the league with a value of £67.5 million ($89,149,119). The five-time Ballon d'Or winner decreased his worth and is now in sixth place despite making a historic move to Juventus from Real Madrid for a whopping £88 million ($116,208,355) in July 2018.

Nevertheless, Ronaldo is still bound to make history for Juve this year. After a hot start this 2020, the Juventus star has now officially scored against every active Serie A side he has faced.

All 18 sides Ronaldo has scored against are Inter Milan, Lazio, Atalanta, Roma, Cagliari, Parma, Torino, Verona, AC Milan, Napoli, Udinese, Bologna, Fiorentina, Sassuolo, Sampdoria, Genoa and Spal.

The only sides “CR7” hasn't scored against are Brescia and Lecce but with the he has been playing lately, Ronaldo is highly likely to make a sweep if he manages to score a goal when Juventus play the two sides on Feb. 16 and March 15.
