  • Former Man Utd players have backed club's decision to sign Jadon Sancho
  • Club legend Wes Brown has compared Sancho to Ronaldo
  • Sancho currently plays for Germany's Dortmund

Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown has claimed that signing Jadon Sancho is like Cristiano Ronaldo and will bring “talent and excitement” to the club.

Sancho, who currently plays for Dortmund, has received interest from clubs such as Chelsea, Liverpool, and Barcelona but Man Utd are understood to have an upper hand in the race to sign the Englishman ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 20-year-old joined Dortmund ahead of the 2018-19 season and has scored 34 goals in as many as 94 matches across competitions for the German side. Courtesy of his impressive show at Dortmund, he even has played 11 games for England national side in the last two years, having scored two goals.

Speaking about what value Sancho could get to Man Utd, former defender Brown said, "Talent and excitement. We need someone exactly like that at the club. We’ve had them over the years and I’m sure if we were to sign him, he would bring that excitement back to the club. It would be good for the team as well.”

“We’ve had players like that in the past, like with Cristiano Ronaldo. They’re the type of player who draw three or four defenders out and make the game a lot easier for the other players. ‘If we could do it, it would be a brilliant signing,” Brown, who made a total of 362 appearances for the Red Devils, further added in the interview with MUTV.

Another former Man Utd defender, David May, has backed the Old Trafford side’s decision to go after the Dortmund player.

“Jadon is a very talented young lad. You know if you sign him, you’ve got 10-12 years of top football coming from him. He’s got everything so get him in!"

"I think Sancho would be the number one target. He ticks every box. He’s exciting and has the courage to get on the ball. He’s already got that end product so for me he would be the number one target this summer,” said May, who helped Man Utd win two consecutive Premier League titles and Champions League in 1999.
