Cristiano Ronaldo has alleged Manchester United management "doubted" him when he missed the pre-season earlier this year as his daughter was in the hospital.

Ronaldo did not travel with Manchester United for their pre-season tours of Thailand and Australia.

In an interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo revealed that two senior officials of Manchester United were suspicious that he was lying about his daughter's health issues.

Ronaldo's daughter, Bella, was sick with bronchitis - just three months after her twin brother had died.

"I spoke with the director and the president of Manchester United and they kind of didn't believe that something was going wrong, which made me feel bad," Ronaldo told TalkTV, according to Sky Sports.

When Morgan asked Ronaldo to confirm if Manchester United believed him, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner said, "They believe me but in the same way [shakes head]... I am never going to change the health of my family for a football. Now, or 10 years behind or forward. And it is something that really hurt me because they doubted my word that I was struggling, especially Bella and Geo [Georgina Rodriguez, Ronaldo's girlfriend]."

The former Real Madrid superstar went on to add that he didn't want to leave his family during a crisis to play in pre-season matches.

"We had one week in the hospital because Bella had a big problem and I didn't go to the pre-season because of that. I didn't want to leave my family to do the pre-season because I didn't think it was fair to leave my family for a pre-season. This is why I didn't go," Ronaldo continued.

Following Ronaldo's bombshell interview, he had an awkward meeting with his Manchester United teammate Bruno Fernandes in Portugal's dressing room. When Fernandes entered Portugal's dressing room in Qatar, ahead of the World Cup, he first walked past Ronaldo by just placing his hand on the latter's arm.

When Ronaldo extended his other hand for a handshake, Fernandes reciprocated with a brief shake, without much eye contact, and immediately made his way to the opposite side of the room to greet other teammates.

Portugal, who are yet to win the World Cup, will begin their campaign in Qatar on Nov. 24 against Ghana. Other than Ghana, Portugal have Uruguay and South Korea in Group H.
