A man's trip to a supermarket turned out to be deadly as he was attacked by a massive crocodile while crossing a stream at the Kuala Baram industrial estate in Indonesia.

A media report said a crocodile leaped out of the water and snatched the plywood factory worker. The Lopeng Fire Station identified the victim as 24-year-old Muhammad Nasution.

The man had said he was going to buy some groceries from a supermarket, and to reach the market, he had to cross the stream. The local fire station said it received a report from a plywood factory about a missing worker.

“Initial investigation showed that the man wanted to cross the stream to buy things at a supermarket," the fire station department told media outlet The Star. “A friend saw him being snatched by a crocodile while walking on the pipeline."

The incident occurred last Tuesday but a missing report was filed only Friday. After the victim's colleagues learnt about his disappearance, they began a search for him. Failing to find him, the workers informed the fire station.

Officials from the fire station then searched for the man and retrieved his remains. Media reports said only the head and shoulders of the victim were found. The body parts were handed over to the police for further investigation.

Last month, a crocodile attacked and killed an 11-year-old boy in Malawi, a landlocked country in southeastern Africa. The victim was with his friends and had gone swimming in the Shire river when the incident took place.

The crocodile emerged from the water as the boys were swimming and attacked the child. It then dragged him away. Nearby fishermen arrived at the scene and found both the crocodile and the victim.
