Lacey Chabert (“Mean Girls,” “Party of Five”) and Brennan Elliott (“UnREAL,” “Debbie Macomber’s Cedar Cove”) are back with “Crossword Mysteries: Proposing Murder” tonight, the second installment of their “Crossword Mysteries” series on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.

Also starring John Kapelos (“The Shape of Water”) as Chief Chauncey O’Connor and Barbara Niven (“Chesapeake Shores”) as Aunt Candace, this new Hallmark movie centers on a murder, a proposal and a long-buried treasure.

“When an old friend of New York Sentinel Crosswords editor Tess Harper’s (Chabert) is found murdered on the very day the Sentinel’s crossword puzzle includes his proposal of marriage, Tess unofficially teams up with Detective Logan O’Connor (Elliott) to find the killer,” according to the synopsis. “Together, they must assemble the pieces of a puzzle whose origins go all the way back to WWII Europe.”

Directed by Don McCutcheon and written by Gregg Rossen and Brian Sawyer, the movie also stars Kimberly J. Brown (Angela) in her first TV movie since reprising her role as Marnie Piper in Disney Channel’s “Halloweentown High,” which just celebrated its 15th anniversary on Tuesday.

The rest of the cast includes Romaine Waite (Winston), Kintaro Akiyama (Elliot), Lara Jean Chorostecki (Christina Blake), Lindsay Owen Pierre (Emory Nelson), Kyle Buchanan (Lyle Clark), Alex Paxton-Beesley (Abby Miller), Jason Diaz (Clayton), Janet Porter (Bethany), Brenda Robins (Mildred Clark), Jeffrey R. Smith (Baxter) and Richard Ashton (Richards).
