Is CW’s ‘Pandora’ Canceled Or Renewed? Season 2 Update Before Finale
Season 1 of The CW’s freshman summer sci-fi series, “Pandora,” airs its two-hour finale tonight, raising the big question: Will there be another season — a Season 2 — of the show?
Set in 2199, the drama follows a “resourceful young woman who has lost everything but finds a new life at Earth’s Space Training Academy where she and her friends learn to defend the galaxy from threats, both alien and human,” according to the synopsis. “When secrets about the nature of her own identity begin to surface, she must uncover the truth, and whether she will be humanity’s savior or the instrument of its destruction.”
It stars Priscilla Quintana (JAX, a.k.a. Pandora), Oliver Dench (Xander Duvall), Raechelle Banno (Atria Nine), John Harlan Kim (Greg Li), Ben Radcliffe (Ralen), Banita Sandhu (Delaney Pilar), Martin Bobb-Semple (Thomas James Ross) and Noah Huntley (Professor Donovan Osborn).
The fate of the show is still up in the air as The CW hasn’t yet renewed the show for a Season 2 or canceled it.
“Pandora” is currently averaging, ahead of its two-episode Season 1 finale tonight, a 0.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 562,000 weekly viewers, according to TV Series Finale.
That’s slightly lower than last year’s Season 1 numbers for The CW’s then-new summer series, “The Outpost,” which was renewed after earning an average 0.14 rating in the 18-49 demo and 628,000 weekly viewers. In its Season 2, which just ended last week, the show had a 0.12 rating in the demo and 590,000 weekly viewers, which are very similar to this first season of “Pandora.”
Unfortunately, that’s not yet indicative of what might be in store for “Pandora” because The CW hasn’t yet renewed “The Outpost” for another season either. That means a Season 2 and Season 3 for the shows, respectively, are still up in the air.
As “Pandora” is set to have a panel at New York Comic Con this weekend, the network could be waiting to make an official renewal announcement at the event, or waiting until the event is over before officially canceling it.
While fans wait for The CW to decide what’s next for the sci-fi series, there are still two episodes left of Season 1, set to air back to back tonight as part of a big final event. Keep reading to find what they’re both about, according to the official synopses.
Episode 12: “Knocking on Heaven’s Door”
“Jax and Xander have their hands full as a dangerous cat-and-mouse game erupts on campus. Various parties from across the galaxy arrive on Earth, all in pursuit of Jax, during which she encounters a surprise ally who not only protects Jax, but also sheds light on who she really is. Meanwhile, Atria, joined by Pilar, bravely explores her new life mission on Adar, helping her clone brothers and sisters, while Thomas searches for his missing father and Ralen contemplates his return to Zatar.”
Guest-starring in the episode are Manu Bennett and Angelica Celaya.
Episode 13: “Simple Twist of Fate” (guest-starring Charisma Carpenter)
“Picking up the pieces from the attack on the Fleet Training Academy by Leone Vokk (guest star Manu Bennett), Jax and Xander must confront Tierney (guest star Tina Casciani) to stop her sinister plans for galactic domination while Atria’s grassroots movement on Adar to run for Seeker may have serious consequences for the clones as well as her friends.”
Charisma Carpenter also guest stars in the episode.
Catch the two-hour Season 1 finale of “Pandora” on The CW on Tuesday at 8 p.m. EDT.
