DaBaby Apologizes...Again For Homophobic Comments, Twitter Says Its 'Disingenuous'
North Carolina rapper DaBaby has faced backlash for homophobic comments made during his Rolling Loud performance in Miami.
The 29-year-old issued somewhat of an apology that may have exacerbated the situation. After multiple events dropping him from lineups, DaBaby offered a second apology.
His comments at Rolling Loud comments seemed to baffle many.
"If you didn’t show up today with HIV/AIDS or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that will make you die in two to three weeks,” he said.
DaBaby would later be cut from music festivals Lollapolooza in Chicago and Day N Vegas in Las Vegas.
The second apology touched on his lack of understanding about sexually transmitted diseases. “Knowing that what I needed was education on these topics and guidance—has been challenging,” he said.
DaBaby insisted that he was not educated on how his comment about “being nasty” if you have AIDs or HIV could offend the LGBTQ community. He made the comments in Miami, which has one of the largest LGBTQ communities in the world.
Many Twitter users have not been won over by latest comments. They have suggested that DaBaby's apologies were to salvage his career after he was dropped from recent music events.
He was also slammed by singer Dua Lipa, who claimed she did not recognize him after his comments. Dua Lipa and DaBaby perform in the same song, "Levitating."
