A Canadian man whose children were killed by a drunk driver nearly seven years ago died by suicide in the hours after Father's Day, according to reports.

Edward Lake was found dead Monday, Yorkregion.com first reported. He had died by suicide, according to the outlet, but the details surrounding his death are unclear.

Lake's three children, Daniel, 9, Harrison, 5, and Milagros, 2, were killed in September 2015 when drunk driver Marco Muzzo sped through a stop sign and crashed into the family's vehicle in Vaughan, Canada. Gary Neville, Lake's father-in-law, also died in the collision.

"Hell’s a lot nicer than this. We close our eyes and they’re all we see. This is a nightmare that will never go away," the grieving father was quoted as saying at the time by the Toronto Star.

During Muzzo's parole hearing, Lake described feeling "angry" because his children "never got the chance to grow up."

"I wake up every day crying. It's scary when you want a hug from your children, and they aren't there," he said.

Muzzo ended up being sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2016, but he was granted full parole in February last year.

Lake's wife, Jennifer Neville-Lake, announced her partner's passing on Twitter. Her post included an image of Lake with the couple's three kids.

"My children's father, Edward Lake, has joined our kids so they can play together, forever," Neville-Lake wrote.

“Mahal kita, Edward,” she added, which means “I love you” in Filipino.

Peel Regional Police also confirmed Lake's death.

"We are aware of and saddened by Mr. Lake's tragic death, as well as the tragic circumstances that this family has faced," Peel Regional Police Constable Heather Cannon said.

Officers had interacted with Lake at his home on the day before his death, the official revealed. Police were allegedly called to the residence "to investigate an altercation."

Responding officers arrived and became involved in a separate "altercation" with Lake, which resulted in the father being Tasered and arrested, police said.

Lake was charged with one count of assault at the scene. He was later taken to the hospital, where he was assessed and released, according to Cannon.

Police also attended Lake's home in the past, but they were unable to share the details of the visit due to privacy reasons.
