Jobless claims rise
The weekly jobless claims report for the week ending July 25 was released today at 8:30 a.m. by the U.S. Department of Labor. Claims were 548,000, up 25,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 559,000. The 4-week moving average is 559,000.
Exxon Mobil profit plunges, sales down sharply
Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM) today reported its third fiscal quarter income fell to $3.95 billion from $11.77 billion a year earlier. Revenue was down 46 percent to $74.5 billion.
MasterCard net falls, revenue steady
MasterCard, Inc (MA) today reported net income for the quarter was $349 million, down from $747 million in the same quarter a year ago. Revenue was up 2.7 percent to $1.28 billion from $1.27 billion a year ago.
Dow posts loss, revenue down
Dow Chemical Co. (DOW) today reported that a second quarter net loss of $435 million, compared with a gain of $776 million in the same quarter a year ago while net sales were $11.3 billion, down from $16.5 billion in the same period.
Goodyear net up, revenue slides
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. (GT) today reported a net loss of $221 million, compared with a net income of $75 million in the same quarter a year ago. Sales were $3.9 billion, down 25 percent from a year ago.
Motorola net up, revenue down sharply
Motorola, Inc (MOT) today reported a second quarter net income of $26 million, compared with earnings of $4 million a year ago. Net sales were $5.5 billion, compared with $8.1 billion a year earlier.
