Dallas Cowboys’ defensive backs coach Kris Richard wasn’t able to enjoy the team’s win over the Seattle Seahawks on Wild-Card Weekend for too long. Before preparing for a matchup with the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional playoffs, Richard officially became a candidate for three head coaching vacancies.

Richard interviewed with the Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Jets Sunday. Each team fired their head coach after the regular-season finale.

The coach has been a big part of one of the NFL’s best defenses. The Cowboys entered the playoffs ranked seventh in yards allowed and sixth in points allowed. Dallas limited Seattle’s league-leading rushing attack to just 73 yards on 24 attempts in the first-round game.

Richard has become used to coaching one of the NFL’s top defenses. He coached the Seahawks’ defensive backs from 2010-2014 before serving as Seattle’s defensive coordinator for three years. The Seahawks made two Super Bowls and won a championship with one of the best secondaries in league history.

The Cowboys have now won eight of their last nine games. They are significant underdogs on the road against the Rams, who went 2-2 after winning 11 of their first 12 games.

Dallas will need a big game from their secondary in order to pull off the upset. Los Angeles had the NFC’s No.1 offense in the regular season and the No.5 passing attack in the NFL.

Rams’ quarterback Jared Goff threw five interceptions and no touchdown passes in the team’s two losses in December.
