Dallas Cowboys Owner Changes Tune On Odell Beckham Signing
KEY POINTS
- Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones sings a different tune on the potential signing of Odell Beckham Jr.
- Beckham's next NFL stop is sketchy and may end up returning in the 2023 season instead
- The Cowboys' receiving corps appears all set after TY Hilton's signing
With nothing happening last week, it appears Dallas Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones is now changing his tune.
After seemingly upbeat about possibly signing Odell Beckham Jr., Jones admitted that the chances of that happening are diminishing when he spoke on "105.3 The Fan" on Tuesday, December 20.
"As of this morning, we don't have anything," Jones said. "The reality is, though, that time is moving on down the road relative to playing in the playoffs and so every day diminishes our chances of going forward."
This comes roughly a week after the 80-year-old NFL executive appeared upbeat about signing the 30-year-old wide receiver out of LSU.
"Odell's going to join us. There's a good chance he will, with the complete goal of getting ready for a playoff game or two," Jones said to Jarrett Bell of USA Today previously.
Aside from not getting anything done, there are several factors to consider about Beckham.
One of them is that he would be initially placed on the injured reserve list of any postseason-bound team.
He would miss four games, including the wild-card round.
Beckham, who tore his ACL during Super Bowl 56 while playing for the Los Angeles Rams, made it clear that he prefers to join a contender.
"I'm hopeful we can get into some important games and have some Deion Sanders-type results," Jones had previously said of Beckham. "Could this be possible to have a great player like that get in two or three playoff games and make some significant plays? I think very much so. That's not an exaggerated thought at all."
Moreover, it would be best to note that the Cowboys did sign TY Hilton.
But it appears with the latest developments, Dallas has now a receiving corps that already has CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup and Noah Brown.
As of this writing, Dallas is at second place in the NFC East with the No. 5 seed and holds a spot in the NFC playoff picture.
As for Beckham, it remains a mystery as to which NFL team he may end up on.
If not, the three-time Pro Bowl may not return until the next NFL season.
