Dallas Cowboys Rumors: Dak Prescott Not Close To Signing Contract, Turned Down Near Record Deal
As the official start of 2020 NFL free agency gets closer, it’s looking more and more likely that the Dallas Cowboys will use the franchise tag on Dak Prescott. America’s Team and its starting quarterback reportedly haven’t come close to agreeing on a new contract.
ESPN’s Jeff Darlington said on “Get Up” Wednesday morning that Dallas and Prescott are very far apart in negotiations. According to Darlington, Prescott has turned down an offer that would pay him “near Russell Wilson money.”
Wilson agreed to a four-year, $140 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks last April. The veteran received a $65 million signing bonus. His average yearly salary of $35 million is the highest in NFL history.
Matt Ryan’s $150 million contract is the largest in NFL history.
Prescott reportedly turned down a contract in September that would’ve paid him $33 million per season. One report in August stated that Prescott was seeking a deal worth $40 million per year.
The Cowboys have said that signing Prescott is their first priority this offseason. The signal caller told Yahoo Sports’ Kimberly Martin that he’s confident a deal will get done.
In the final year of his rookie contract, Prescott put up career-highs with 4,092 passing yards, 30 passing touchdowns and 8.2 yards per attempt. The Cowboys missed the playoffs in the 2019 season and failed to have a winning record for the first time in four years with Prescott as the starting quarterback.
Prescott has never missed a start. He has a career 97.0 passer rating
If Prescott is tagged on March 18 when free agency starts, the two sides will have until July 15 to reach a long-term agreement.
