We aren’t even three weeks into the 2019 NFL season, and several players have already asked to be traded. Minkah Fitzpatrick was the first one to get his wish when the Miami Dolphins sent him to the Pittsburgh Steelers Monday night. Jalen Ramsey could be next as he is reportedly looking to leave the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Dallas Cowboys seem to be dealing with an unhappy player of their own, though he hasn’t produced to the level of the aforementioned defensive backs. Taco Charlton hasn’t been shy about expressing his displeasure with the team, openly petitioning to be either released or traded.

Charlton has been a healthy scratch in each of Dallas’ first two games. A day after the defensive end was inactive during the Cowboys’ 31-21 win against the Washington Redskins, he tweeted “Free Me” in response to a quote from Dallas COO Stephen Jones about the decision to sit the former 2017 first-round pick.

Charlton deleted the tweet, but he vaguely addressed the matter in another post.

“Some of it is just flexibility, position flex when you're talking about the backup role,” Jones said on 105.3 FM The Fan Monday afternoon when asked about keeping Charlton inactive. “Certainly that's where Taco is and I think our feeling has been that Joe Jackson can play both sides. We've been having Taco more one-sided. And, so, it's just a matter of finding the right time and place to get that going again.”

Defensive end Robert Quinn is set to come back from a two-game suspension when the Cowboys host the Dolphins Sunday afternoon, providing Charlton with less of an opportunity to see the field. Defensive end Tyrone Crawford aggravated a hip injury in Week 2 and is considered day-to-day, according to ESPN.com.

The Cowboys had high hopes for Charlton when they made him the No.28 overall pick in the NFL draft two years ago. The Michigan product hasn’t lived up to expectations, recording 46 total tackles and four sacks in 27 career games.

According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Dallas has had trade discussions regarding Charlton, though the 24-year-old hasn’t been close to being dealt.

Dallas was reportedly interested in trading for Fitzpatrick before he was sent to Pittsburgh in exchange for a 2020 first-round pick.

The Cowboys are off to a 2-0 start with the NFC’s second-best point differential. Dallas is favored by more than three touchdowns against Miami in Week 3.
