The Dallas Cowboys will reportedly hire Mike McCarthy as their next head coach. The former Green Bay Packers’ coach will replace Jason Garrett, who just concluded a nearly 10-year run at the helm of America’s team.

According to FOX’s Jay Glazer, an announcement and press conference are expected to make the hiring official later this week. Before Glazer broke the news, there were rumors that Dallas had settled on McCarthy to be their next head coach.

McCarthy had been considered one of the favorites for just about all of the head coach openings around the NFL. He interviewed with the Cleveland Browns, New York Giants and Carolina Panthers.

The Cowboys met with McCarthy Saturday, even before the team publicly announced that it had moved on from Garrett. ESPN reported Sunday night that Dallas was looking to hire someone with extensive NFL head-coaching experience. That requirement gave McCarthy an edge over college coaches like Lincoln Riley and Urban Meyer, who were thought to be potential candidates.

McCarthy compiled a 125-77-2 record with the Packers from 2006-2018. He won Super Bowl XLV in 2011 and led Green Bay to nine playoff appearances in 13 years.
