The NFL regular season ended four days ago, and the Dallas Cowboys still haven’t made an official decision about their head coach. Jason Garrett will reportedly meet with owner Jerry Jones for a third time this week Thursday to discuss his future with the organization.

Garrett’s contract with Dallas officially comes to an end on Jan. 14. It’s been expected that the Cowboys won’t give him a new deal. While that remains the case, there appears to be at least a slight possibility that the head coach’s days with Dallas could continue.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on “Get Up” Thursday morning that Jones could be trying to figure out if there is a different role for Garrett in the organization. He noted that there is a very remote possibility that Garrett could return as the Cowboys’ head coach for the 2020 season, but it is highly likely that Dallas and Garrett will officially part ways within the next few days.

Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley and former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer are considered to be among the top candidates to coach Dallas next season. New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and New Orleans Saints tight end coach Dan Campbell could be among the NFL assistants that land interviews with Dallas.

Garrett went 5-3 as the Cowboys’ interim head coach in 2010. He was named the head coach for the following season, posting an 80-64 record over the next nine years.

The Cowboys won three NFC East titles under Garrett. Dallas never reached the NFC Championship Game.

The Cowboys missed this year’s playoffs, giving the team three postseason appearances with Garrett at the helm.
