Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants 2020: Prediction, Spread, Odds For NFC East Game
The Dallas Cowboys have been the NFL’s most disappointing team through the first four weeks of the 2020 season. If they can’t win in Week 5, it might be time to accept that Dak Prescott and Co. are not legitimate Super Bowl contenders.
The New York Giants are 9.5-point underdogs in Dallas Sunday, according to betting odds compiled by OddsShark. The betting total is 54.
New York is a game behind Dallas for sole possession of last place in the NFC East. One of the league’s four winless teams, the Giants offer the Cowboys a reprieve following a difficult schedule.
The Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks and Cleveland Browns have all beaten Dallas. They have a combined 10-2 record.
The Cowboys’ one victory came against the Atlanta Falcons, who enter Week 5 with a 0-4 record.
Even in that win, Dallas surrendered 39 points. The Cowboys gave up 49 points in their Week 4 defeat to Cleveland, giving them the NFL’s worst scoring defense.
Dallas has allowed a league-worst 36.5 points per game. The Cowboys are 30th in total defense, giving up 430.5 yards per game.
An abysmal defense has overshadowed Dallas’ No.1 ranked offense. Prescott is the NFL passing leader with 1,690 yards, on pace to shatter the all-time record.
The story of New York’s season has been just the opposite. A defense that’s played well north of expectations hasn’t been enough to overcome an anemic offense.
The Giants are dead last in the NFL with 11.8 points per game. Every other team averages at least 16.3 points per contest. New York hasn’t put up more than 16 points in any game.
New York ranks fifth in both total defense and opponents’ yards per play. The team just held the Rams to 17 points in a competitive Week 4 loss.
Giants’ games are averaging a combined total of 35.8 points per game. There’s an average of 68 points scored in each Cowboys’ game.
If the first month of the season has taught us anything, it’s that a top offense will beat a good defense. Poor defenses will likely be exposed, even against a team that’s struggling to move the ball.
All four of New York’s opponents rank in the top-seven in scoring defense. Daniel Jones should have his best game of the young season when he faces the Cowboys and their struggling secondary. Dallas has surrendered a 114.3 passer rating.
The Cowboys are one of four teams with a 0-4 record against the spread. Dallas might still be the best team in the division, but it’s hard to lay nearly 10 points with the Cowboys until they prove they can slow anybody down.
Prediction: Dallas over New York, 30-23
