Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Jets 2019: Prediction Against The Spread, Betting Odds For NFL Week 6
The Dallas Cowboys have followed up their perfect 3-0 start with a two-game losing streak. After failing to beat the first pair of good teams on their schedule, the defending NFC East champions should get back in the win column against another weak opponent.
Dallas is the biggest road favorite in Week 6 of the 2019 NFL season. The Cowboys are laying 8.5 points against the New York Jets, according to the latest betting line at OddsShark. The over/under is 43.5.
It’s been a disappointing couple of weeks for the Cowboys. Losses against the New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers might be evidence that Dallas’ offense only played so well in September because of a favorable schedule.
The question of whether or not the Cowboys are a true Super Bowl contender shouldn’t matter in Week 6. New York might be as bad as any team Dallas has faced all season, making Sunday the perfect spot for Dak Prescott and Co. to, at least temporarily, right the ship.
The Cowboys have dominated inferior competition. Dallas blew out Eli Manning and the New York Giants 35-17 in the season opener. The Washington Redskins needed a garbage-time touchdown to only lose at home 31-21 to the Cowboys. A week later, Dallas covered a three-touchdown point spread by defeating the Miami Dolphins 31-6.
Like the Redskins and Dolphins, the Jets are winless. Sam Darnold is likely to be New York’s starting quarterback for the first time since Week 1, but the team remains one of the NFL’s worst.
Darnold played poorly in his only game of the season when the Jets lost at home to the Buffalo Bills 17-16. The quarterback was sacked four times and the team totaled 223 yards of offense.
The Jets haven’t scored more than 16 points in any game. Darnold might not have made last week’s 31-6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles much closer, considering a bad Jets’ offensive line surrendered 10 sacks.
New York ranks dead last with 179.5 yards of offense per game. Even Miami is averaging well over 200 yards of offense each week.
Prescott doesn’t need to return to his MVP-caliber play, though he very well might. The quarterback completed 74.5 percent of his passes for 920 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions in Dallas’ three wins over bad teams. Ezekiel Elliott averaged 96.3 yards on 5.25 yards per carry in those contests.
Dallas felt the absence of starting left tackle Tyron Smith in the Week 5 loss to Green Bay. The Packers dominated the trenches, sacking Prescott three times and putting him under a lot of pressure. Not only does Smith have a good chance to return Sunday, but the Jets only have six sacks this season.
The Jets are 1-5 against the spread in their last six games. They haven’t won at MetLife Stadium since Oct. 14 of last year.
As long as the point spread stays in single digits, Dallas is the safe pick.
Prediction: Dallas over New York, 27-13
