Dallas McCarver's 911 Call Reveals Insulin Possibly Connected To Cause Of Death
New details emerged in the death of bodybuilding star Dallas McCarver, courtesy of TMZ Thursday. The athlete had been taking Insulin, which is typically used to treat diabetes. His death could have been related to the medical condition he needed to take the medication for.
The publication obtained the 911 call made by the friend who found McCarver in his apartment. He had apparently choked on food.
The friend, whose name wasn’t revealed by TMZ, tried to save the 26 years old’s life by performing CPR and “other lifesaving maneuvers.” He was unable to revive the athlete.
“My friend’s passed out, he’s dead. I can’t get him back,” the friend says in the 911 call. “He’s home. He’s on the ground. He passed out and I can’t get him back.”
The friend explained to the 911 operator that when he tried to perform mouth-to-mouth it seemed like there was something stuck in his throat. He noted McCarver wasn’t breathing, was “blue,” and had blood coming out of his nose.
McCarver was pronounced dead Tuesday.
While he apparently had recovered, McCarver passed out while on stage at the 2017 Arnold Classic Australia. The friend apparently thought a similar incident recurred on the night of McCarver’s death.
The athlete burst out on the bodybuilding scene when he was 21 years old. He quickly became to win competitions and made a name for himself. Last year, he placed 8th in the Mr. Oympia competition.
McCarver’s girlfriend, WWE superstar Dana Brooke, has been the only person from his camp to speak out. “He had a way with making people laugh!! Dallas was an exceptional body builder, but I didn't see him for that... I saw him for HIM AND HIS HEART!! He is the best individual I have ever met — my ying to my yang... finished my sentences and knew what I was thinking before I'd say it!!” she wrote on Instagram Tuesday.
According to Brooke, McCarver was going to get into the world of wrestling. “We had it all figured out — new WWE superstar ‘Big country’ and ‘Country Strong’ mixed tag team!!!” she said. “You were my life. You are my life. I still smell [you] and feel [your] presence, NEVER LEAVE MY SIDE. Like I have always asked; and u said NO NEVER Mrs. McCarver — I had your back and I knew you had mine!! You’re our angel.”
Brooke was apparently the last person to speak to McCarver before his untimely death. He called her before he made dinner. His final words to her were, “I love you. Goodbye.”
A coroner has not yet ruled an official cause of death. There were no signs of foul play and it didn’t appear McCarver tried to hang himself, TMZ noted.
His last Instagram post was hours before he died. McCarver showed himself lifting 160-pound dumbbells at the gym. “Could've been a little slower and better under control with these 160s today... but sometimes you've just got to let the intensity flow,” McCarver wrote in his final post. The clip has been viewed more than 1.2 million times in the wake of his tragic death.
