‘Dancing With The Stars,’ ‘The Bachelor’ Spinoffs Greenlit; Everything We Know So Far

Big things are in the works at ABC. On Tuesday, the network announced plans to add two spinoffs of popular series’ to their lineup.

The “Dancing With the Stars” and “Bachelor” franchises will be expanding. According to Variety, viewers can expect a pint-sized version of the ABC dancing competition along with a more competitive addition to Bachelor Nation. Neither “Dancing With the Stars Junior” nor “The Bachelor Winter Games” have official premiere dates.

“DWTS Junior,” airing in spring 2018, will feature kid celebrities partnering with young professional dancers in a head-to-head competition. The show will feature a panel of judges and various week-to-week challenges. It’s not clear yet who will be seated at the judges table or which tiny pros will be cast.

“The Bachelor Winter Games,” set to debut in February 2018, will star castoffs from previous seasons in what the network is describing as “an ode to the Winter Olympic Games.” Contestants will come together at a winter resort to faceoff in competitions while also looking for love.

In addition to the two new series’, ABC has renewed several beloved ones. Among those popular shows returning to the network are “DWTS” and “The Bachelor.” The shows have been renewed for Season 25 and 22 respectively.

“DWTS” spinoff and renewal come amid the most controversial and shocking season in the show’s history. In Season 24, several deserving and talented teams have been sent home in favor of less talented, albeit fun, duos. This had raised questions among some fans about the fairness of the show and whether the elimination process should be changed.

Most recently, fans of the competition series were in an uproar after Sasha Farber and Simone Biles were eliminated from “DWTS” in the semifinals. The announcement shocked fans of the show as well as those on it, many of whom were left with their mouths open in shock when hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews announced that Lindsay Arnold and David Ross would be going to the finals.

No one was more shocked by Sasha and Simone’s elimination than Ross, 40. Shortly after the decision was handed down, he took to Twitter to share his feelings. He kept it short and to the point, telling fans he had no words for what had transpired.

This isn’t the first upset of Season 24. In Week 7, Team Lady and the Gramp (Lindsay and David) advanced over Peta Murgatroyd and Nick Viall and Artem Chigvintsev and Nancy Kerrigan. The week prior, Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Heather Morris were sent packing after getting their first perfect score.

The “DWTS” elimination shockers haven’t had any effect on the team most fans predict will win Season 24. Oddsmakers has Val Chmerkovskiy and Normani Kordei taking home the Mirrorball trophy in the finals. Simone and Sasha were predicted to come in second, though now it looks like it’ll be either Lindsay and David or Emma Slater and Rashad Jennings.
