'Dancing with the Stars' Finale: J.R. Martinez Wins Mirrorball Trophy
Dancing with the Stars has crowned J.R. Martinez as winner of the Mirrorball Trophy.
On Tuesday night, Martinez, Rob Kardashian and Ricki Lake took part in a finale that included Carson Kressley arriving on stage to Madonna's Vogue.
In the end, season 13 was all about Martinez.
First and foremost, I want to thank everyone who voted for us for 10 weeks . . . thank you America, for believing in us, Martinez said after he was awarded the Mirrorball Trophy.
The 28-year-old also thanked his partner, professional ballroom dancer and champion Karina Smirnoff.
You are amazing, and I'm so grateful I was able to be part of your first mirror-ball trophy, Martinez said, as Smirnoff tried to hold back her tears.
Martinez, who was a favorite to win Dancing with the Stars, dipped to a low score last week after he injured his ankle during rehearsal. But Monday's competition episode saw the actor and former U.S. Army Soldier dancing for his life, in a performance of the Cha Cha and Freestyle.
Here we are~The #finals can't believe it's here! Over three months of hard work & it boils down to this. I THANK ALL of you for your support, Martinez wrote on Twitter before the finale.
Ricki Lake, another season favorite, was the first to get the boot on Tuesday night, placing the 43-year-old talk show host in third place of Dancing with the Stars.
Lake took to Twitter following her elimination to thank her fans.
Huge thank you to all of my friends and fans! I feel the love! xoLoveu @derekhough. U R the best! #DWTS best to @knowjr & @RobKardashian, Lake wrote.
During the finale's last hour, Kardashian and Martinez competed in a samba performance that the stars choreographed with their respective partners -- on the spot.
Despite Kardashian leading the scoreboard by one point after the samba, the final scores (which included viewers' votes) placed Martinez on top.
I'm super thankful . . . this is such a crazy experience. I'm definitely not sad. I won in my book, Kardashian said.
With Martinez taking home the Mirrorball Trophy, season 13 of Dancing with the Stars officially comes to an end.
And what a season it has been. From the announcement of the cast, to Chaz Bono's inspirational journey on the show, to Maksim Chmerkovskiy's antics, Dancing with the Stars season 13 has been entertaining for the last 10 weeks.
Congratulations, J.R. Martinez!
