Looks like we weren’t the only ones surprised that Hayes Grier and Emma Slater were the fifth couple to be eliminated from Season 21 of "Dancing With the Stars." The morning after Week 7’s shocking elimination, judge Carrie Anna Inaba took to Twitter to share her conflicted thoughts on the 15-year-old Vine star getting sent home during the Halloween-themed installment Monday night.

“Woke up still sad and shocked about @HayesGrier and @EmmaSlaterDance,” the longtime judge of the hit ABC competition tweeted. “No one saw that coming … #vote.”

Alexa PenaVega, who was in the bottom three alongside Hayes and Tamar Braxton, bolstered that statement with her reaction to Hayes’ elimination. When show host Tom Bergeron announced who was getting the ballroom boot, Alexa spun around in dismay.

The safe contestants then flocked to Hayes' side, showering him with hugs and ultimately forcing Bergeron to speed the goodbyes along -- after all, “DWTS” is a live show!

“You ended on a night where you excelled,” the host told Hayes, who earned a score 26 out of a possible 30 for his eerie waltz. Inaba then urged audience members to get up on their feet and applaud the young man who left his heart, soul and werewolf facial hair on the dance floor.

Before Hayes was eliminated from the competition, Julianne Hough stated in her critique of Team Nightmare’s spooky group number, which was danced to Danny Elfman’s “This Is Halloween,” that the young contestant stole the show despite being chosen last for his team. But Hayes wasn’t bitter. Instead he revealed on “Good Morning America” Tuesday that he was proud of how he ended his stint on the series.

“It was good,” he began. “[It was] nice knowing we won the team dance -- ending Derek’s [Hough] winning streak.”

After his “GMA” appearance, Hayes responded to Inaba’s sweet tweet.
