Darren McFadden Contract Waived, Dallas Cowboys To Release Running Back
The Dallas Cowboys announced on Sunday that the team will waive veteran running back Darren McFadden. The move was "based on mutual discussions," NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported.
McFadden, 30, has been inactive for the last two Cowboys games and the first eight games of the regular season. The deal won’t go through until Monday because waivers aren’t available on Sunday, according to ESPN. If he clears waivers, McFadden will be allowed to sign with any team.
"Sources: Based on mutual discussions, the #Cowboys are going to waive veteran RB Darren McFadden. A possible addition for a playoff team," Rapoport tweeted.
The Cowboys listed McFadden as inactive last week in losses against the Philadelphia Eagles and the Los Angeles Chargers. He cited frustration regarding the team’s decision.
"It definitely surprised the hell out of me," McFadden told reporters. "But it's what they decided, man. That's just what it is right now." It's very frustrating, but at the end of the day, they make their decisions and I can't do nothing but roll with them."
McFadden played just three seasons with the Cowboy and played just three games due to an elbow injury last season. He finished fourth in the NFL in rushing with 1,089 rushing yards for the team in 2015, but had just 87 yards on 24 carries last season.
He has rushed for 5,421 yards with 28 touchdowns over nine seasons. McFadden was picked fourth overall by the Oakland Raiders in the 2008 NFL Draft. He signed a two-year deal with the Cowboys in March 2015, worth up to $5.85 million.
