On Friday night, "Dateline" will allow those who tune in to take a closer look at Shele Danishefsky's murder. Throughout the episode of the true-crime show, NBC correspondent Andrea Canning will examine the case and the investigation that surrounded her death.

After graduating from college with a marketing degree, Shele decided to begin working alongside her dad at Merrill Lynch. After making the career decision, she eventually became a private wealth manager and found quite a bit of success after taking the step. This, said Canning, made her seem like the "classic New York City woman." To that, Shele's sister, Eve, replied, "Absolutely. Absolutely, she was."

Then, in 1998, she met a man named Rod Covlin at a singles mixer who was 11 years her junior. After immediately taking to each other, they married within six months.

However, problems soon emerged due to the differences in their careers. While Shele found success due to the fact that she was a "stunning overachiever," Rod encountered more hurdles in his professional life. This made Rod seem as though he was someone who "had a lot of big ideas" but was "unable to execute on any of them," according to Shele's brother-in-law, Marc Karstaedt.

Eventually, the two decided to separate, even though Rod continued to live across the hall from her. On the night of her death, she had gone out for drinks with friends and had returned home to be with her children by 8 p.m., which is when their visitation with Rod ended. Shortly thereafter, she put her children to bed and checked her dating profile. This would be the last time that anyone would see her alive.

On the following morning, Shele's daughter found her body in her bathroom. After hearing of the discovery, Rod allegedly pulled her out of the tub and began administering CPR.

Upon first examination, it appeared as though she had slipped getting in or out of the full bathtub. However, due to the fact that she had recently received a specific hair treatment that required you to keep your hair dry, some close to her started to wonder about what had truly taken place.

As a result of the questions, Marc began to consider that perhaps it had been a "staged accident." On Friday night, Canning will investigate the circumstances surrounding Shele's death and take a closer look at the events that led up to it.
