Dave Chappelle Netflix Release Date Confirmed: Famed Comedian To Debut Stand-Up Specials
Dave Chappelle fans have a something to look forward to on Netflix.
The streaming service announced a release date for two stand-up specials for the comedian Thursday, according to reports. Last November, the service had announced that it would be rolling out a total of three Chappelle stand-up specials. The specials, “Dave Chappelle: The age of Spin” and “Dave Chappelle: Deep in The Heart of Texas,” are expected to debut March 21.
Chappelle appeared on “Saturday Night Live” last fall, and his final special, “Dave: Chappelle: For What It’s Worth,” aired in 2004. Chappelle’s renowned “The Chappelle Show” ran on Comedy Central for three seasons, and many of the clips and segments from the show on YouTube have received millions of hits. More recently, in 2014, Chappelle performed in 10 consecutively sold-out live shows at Radio City Music Hall.
Netflix made the announcement via Twitter and debuted a teaser video Thursday. The specials come from Chappelle’s “personal vault.”
“Age of Spin” was filmed in March 2016 in Los Angeles, while “Deep in the Heart of Texas” was filmed in April 2015 at Austin City Limits Live. The three specials will be the first specials the comedian has released in 12 years.
“Dave Chappelle is a legendary voice in comedy – searing, vital, and now more than ever, essential,” Netflix’s vice president of original documentary and comedy, Lisa Nishimura, said in a statement. “Dave’s three new specials promise to be some of the most anticipated events in comedy, and we are honored he will mark his global return on Netflix.”
Netflix has announced that it will also be releasing specials for Amy Schumer, Chris Rock and Louis C.K., among others, throughout the year.
