This Day For Republicans: Romney Swings, Mourdock Stumbles
- Mitt Romney is embarking on a whirlwind tour of several swing states. The breakdown: He will begin his day in Denver, Colo., before flying to Reno, Nev., for an 11:45 a.m. rally; then it's on to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for a 7 p.m. event, after which he departs for Cincinatti, Ohio.
- Running mate Paul Ryan will keep the focus on must-win (for Romney) Ohio, delivering a 2:20 p.m. speech on economic mobility at Cleveland State University.
- Ann Romney will be in Florida today, set to make stops at eateries in Tampa (12:40 p.m.) and Lakeland (2:40 p.m.) before holding a rally in Winter Park at 4:20 p.m.
- Todd Akin redux? Months after Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin set off a firestorm with his suggestion that female bodies somehow thwart "legitimate rape," Indiana Senate candidate Richard Mourdock, in response to a debate question about allowing abortions in cases of rape and incest, said that "I think even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that's something God intended to happen." Look for fallout and damage control throughout the day. (The Indiana seat Mourdock is seeking is a priority for both parties -- Democrats were heartened when Mourdock defeated longtime Sen. Richard Lugar in the Republican primary.)
