  • The latest assassination scare amid Trump's bid for his second presidential run

A DC Metropolitan Police Department report on the arrest of a man from Brandon, Florida revealed that the suspect was arrested just outside the White House on Saturday after stating without fear that he was there to “assassinate President Donald Trump” using a knife.

In the arrest report obtained by CNN, it was further revealed that 25-year-old Roger Hedgpeth approached a police officer with the United States Secret Service, nonchalantly stating his purpose for being outside the White House.

A pat down search was then carried out and the knife Hedgpeth mentioned earlier was confiscated. He was then taken into custody and during this time, it was revealed the Florida man was a mental health patient.

Aside from being a patient under mental health monitoring, Hedgpeth is also said to be a critically missing and endangered person. He has since been transported to health facility for further mental health evaluation.

While details about Hedgpeth’s journey to Washington, D.C. have yet to be revealed, but it is clear he wasn’t able to penetrate the White House and was apprehended shortly after telling the police officer about his plans.

The Daily Express noted that this isn’t the first time a Trump assassination scare took place. A similar scenario took place during a rally in Las Vegas nearly five years ago where Michael Sandford attempted to take a policeman’s gun.

At that time in June 2016, Sandford, who is of British descent, tried to snatch a policeman’s gun at the rally so he can “shoot and kill” Trump. He first told officers at the rally that he wanted an autograph from the presidential candidate.

It was later revealed that Sandford was a mental health sufferer, had autism, and at the time of the gun-snatching incident, he experienced a psychotic episode, The Guardian reported a year after the 21-year-old’s release from prison.

The incident involving Hedgpeth came at a critical time in Trump’s campaign as the former business mogul attempts to snag the presidential seat for the second time.

Trump’s impeachment has been thrown under the table but he is still faced with multiple challenges as his campaign leaders try to address the previous weaknesses his first regime had and his previous campaigns showed.

The American chief has yet to officially comment on the issue regarding the latest attempt on his life.
