'Dead Island 2' Project Still Alive, Developer CEO Teases Progress
THQ Nordic CEO Lars Wingefors has recently confirmed that “Dead Island 2” is still being developed. It’s been almost half a decade since the game’s trailer was released and there’s been no status updates in the past years. Here’s what we know about the announcement.
According to GamesRadar, Wingefors confirmed in the company’s interim report that “Dead Island 2” is still part of its upcoming releases. The game’s logo has also been changed compared to the one shown in its trailer, which was released in 2014. The new logo still has a similar bright red tropical palm tree design like the first game and doesn’t depart too far from its previous design.
Wingefors also said that “Dead Island” fans should stay tuned because they still have more info to share soon. At best, fans hoping for this game can see that the game isn’t cancelled after this announcement. Before the confirmation, “Dead Island 2” was mostly considered vaporware due to fact that the company originally teased a Spring 2015 release for the game.
The nearest event that could showcase information about this game would be E3 2019, which is happening next month. THQ Nordic is one of the participating developers, companies and entities connected to video games this year. However, we’ve yet to know which major show will THQ Nordic appear in. According to Eurogamer, THQ Nordic also appears to be preparing to announce a new "Destroy All Humans!" entry and "Darksiders 3."
The original “Dead Island” was a known open-world RPG set in a zombie-infested resort island. As the player traverses around the resort, zombies can be found at every turn in the beautiful scenery. To fight back, players can pick up tools and weapons to kill the zombies in their way.
Moreover, players can also craft weapons and invest in different skill trees according to the characters they picked to progress further in the game. Lastly, players can group up in multiplayer as they slog through zombies to complete the game’s story.
