The dead body of a 26-year-old man was found wrapped in bloody bedding in his girlfriend’s New York City apartment Sunday, police said.
Justin Lee, of Bay Terrace, was found unconscious and unresponsive, lying face-up on a bed inside the apartment in Flushing, Queens, Sunday night, the New York Post reported, citing authorities.
Lee was wrapped and covered in bloody bed sheets, according to police. Emergency medical responders pronounced him dead on the scene.
It was unclear how Lee died, but police said he appeared to have a head wound, a report by the New York Daily News said. Detectives are investigating Lee's death as a homicide.
An autopsy will be conducted by the city medical examiner to determine Lee's official cause of death.
Lee's body was discovered after his wife, who knew he had a girlfriend, asked police to perform a wellness check on him, unnamed police sources told New York Post.
The unnamed girlfriend was reportedly not home when police arrived, but a female roommate let officers inside, the sources added.
Authorities are now looking for Lee's girlfriend.
A similar discovery was made in April when New York police found the decomposing body of a missing man stuffed in a plastic bag inside a Harlem apartment.
The body of Daniel Simons, 37, was found inside the sixth-floor apartment on April 23. His body was fully clothed and had stab wounds in the chest.
Police were alerted to the body when a home health aide for the apartment's tenant attempted to clean the living room and found the body wrapped in a black plastic bag under a comforter. Authorities initially could not determine if the body belonged to a man or a woman because of the decomposition.
The tenant of the apartment, which was used as a shooting gallery and temporary sleeping area for the neighborhood's drug users, denied knowing the victim.
Simons, a truck driver who had changed his last name from McCray, was last seen by relatives on March 27. They were initially not concerned by his disappearance as they knew Simons used drugs and would often leave town for days at a time.
