  • Jesse Lingard is desperate to leave Manchester United for regular game time
  • Newcastle and West Ham submitted bids for Lingard
  • Lingard's current deal is due to expire in the 2022 summer

Manchester United reportedly blocked Jesse Lingard's transfer on the deadline day of the January transfer window Monday.

Even after interim manager Ralf Rangnick agreed to let Lingard leave the club, the Manchester United board stopped his move to Newcastle, ESPN reported. However, International Business Times could not verify it independently.

Manchester United informed Lingard that he would stay at Old Trafford after both Newcastle and West Ham United submitted bids Monday. The Red Devils were reportedly not satisfied with the offers they received for the Englishman. They had asked Newcastle to pay a loan fee and a $16 million Premier League survival package.

Lingard is desperate to leave Manchester United due to a lack of regular game time. The 29-year-old started just two games this season, both not in the Premier League. And as a result, he was left out of Gareth Southgate's England squad for the November internationals.

The English forward has less than six months left on his current deal with Manchester United. He has already turned down an extension from his boyhood club and has a clear intention to leave.

Lingard's current market value is around $23 million, according to Transfermarkt. It looks likely that the Red Devils are set to lose their academy boy on a free transfer in the 2022 summer.

Manchester United's decision to not allow Lingard leave on the deadline day has left the young forward "disappointed," reported Sky Sports. Lingard was keen to move to the North East and play at St. James' Park for the remainder of the season.

Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker had earlier criticized Lingard, asking him to "stop taking pictures and start becoming a footballer." Parker called Lingard "Mr. Instagram" and said the English forward needs to prove himself as a soccer player by leaving Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Donny van de Beek, who was also frustrated at Old Trafford for being benched most of the time, has moved to Everton on loan. The Dutch midfielder is set to play at Goodison Park for the remainder 2021-22 campaign.
