Deadline Day: PSG Want Everton Star As They Look To Cash In On Mbappe
KEY POINTS
- Kylian Mbappe has just one year left on his PSG contract
- He is linked with a move to Real Madrid
- But the La Liga giants are yet to make an offer for Mbappe
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have reportedly identifield Everton's Richarlison as replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who could leave the club with a week left to go in the 2021 summer transfer.
Mbappe has turned down an extension with PSG and his relationship with the Ligue 1 side's sporting director Leonardo Araújo remains cold, reported French media outlet RMS Sport. The new deal would offer a substantial salary increase to make him the third-highest paid in the squad after Lionel Messi and Neymar.
Only one club has approached PSG with concrete terms over a potential transfer for Mbappe in recent weeks and it is an English club, the RMS Sport report further stated. While the name of the club has not been revealed, it is believed that it could be Liverpool, according to the soccer website Teamtalk.
The 2018 World Cup winner, Mbappe, has entered the final year of his contract with PSG. The French club is believed to be desperate to avoid losing Mbappe for free next summer. While PSG have repetitively claimed that it is not looking to part ways with Mbappe, their stance is expected to change in the coming days.
PSG have a week to cash in on Mbappe, who will become free to sign a pre-contract with a foreign club in January. Mbappe has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid and now the Parc des Princes side is waiting for the La Liga giants to make an offer, according to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo.
However, it was previously reported that PSG had agreed to let Mbappe leave as a free agent in the summer of 2022 as they were looking to sign Cristiano Ronaldo for free from Juventus as a replacement. PSG chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi has always publically spoken about teaming Messi, Neymar and Ronaldo at his club someday. By securing Messi this summer, Al-Khelaifi is closer to his dream.
Meanwhile, Richarlison, who has netted a goal and an assist in the 2021-22 Premier League season, is contracted with Everton until 2024. Ahead of the new campaign, the Brazilian forward was linked with a move to Real Madrid as it was believed that former Everton boss Carlo Ancelloti wanted to reunite with the player at Santiago Bernabeu.
