A family in South Africa recently had the shock of their life when they discovered a huge black mamba entering their home through the house's front door. The reptile soon dashed into their bedroom and gave local snake catchers a tough time before eventually getting caught.
Snake catcher Nick Evans took to Facebook Monday to narrate the incident from a house in Reservoir Hills, Durban. The family was in the kitchen when they heard a commotion by the front door ahead of them, Evans wrote in his post, along with a video of the rescue.
"They looked up and saw this large Black Mamba entering their home! I think many people would have fainted at this point," he added.
"It slithered in their direction, probably not realizing they were there. I think something outside had scared it in. When it got closer, the gentleman lifted a chair to scare it off. When it saw this, the mamba raised its head up slightly, in fright, and swerved left, going down the passageway," Evans wrote.
The snake then dashed into the bedroom. The owner was quick enough to close the door, trapping the snake in the room, Evans described in the post.
The house owner then called Evans, who rushed to the scene to rescue the snake.
The video shows Evans opening the bedroom door to find the reptile slithering on the floor. Upon sensing some activity, the snake is seen moving underneath the bed. However, Evans manages to get hold of it using his snake tongs. He then holds the snake with his bare hands and tells the house owner that the reptile "is just terrified."
"As you can see, when I opened the door, I was taken aback by the impressive sight in front of me! The family was shaken up, and so was the mamba. He didn't enjoy the experience either!" Evans further wrote in his post.
The video has since gone viral with over 23,000 views in two days. Several people took to the comments section to call the reptile "huge" and "beautiful."
"What a beauty. The mamba was so anxious," one person wrote.
"Absolutely beautiful (but) I would not be saying that if it was my house of course," wrote another Facebook user.
Black mambas are lethally venomous snakes, mostly found in the rocky hills of southern and eastern Africa. They can grow up to 14 feet in length and are one of the fastest snakes in the world.
