Video emerged Thursday of people in an Indian village lending a helping hand to one of the deadliest creatures in the animal kingdom. Villagers could be seen helping a 12-foot long King Cobra drink from a plastic water bottle after the animal reportedly crawled out from a nearby hiding place in a desperate search for water.

One man can be seen holding the snake’s tail to prevent it from attacking while another fed the snake from a large water bottle and poured water on its head to cool it down. The villagers got dangerously close to the animal although a single bite from a King Cobra contains enough venom to kill 20 people, according to National Geographic.

The snake appeared in Karnataka’s Kaiga village looking for water according to the Mumbai Mirror. The village is in the midst of a water crisis after it entered its third consecutive year of drought when the rains stopped completely in August, the Hindustan Times reported.

The snake was reportedly taken to a nearby animal shelter for treatment after it was done drinking.

Though King Cobras are extremely deadly, reaching up to 18 feet and capable of rearing up on their tails to attack, the snakes generally steer clear of humans, according to National Geographic.

While the video of the villagers helping the King Cobra had a happy ending, a far less heartwarming snake video made rounds on the internet Wednesday after a missing Indonesian man was found inside the stomach of a 23-foot python. Villagers cut the body of the dead python open and found the body of a 25-year-old man, identified as Akbar, who had likely been choked to death by the snake.

“When the snake was captured, the boots Akbar was wearing were clearly visible in the stomach of the snake,” village secretary Junaidi told the Jakarta Post. “Resident[s] cut open the belly of the snake and Akbar was lifeless.”
