Deadly Snake Bites Pet Dogs Trying To Protect Owner; Canines Dead
Two pet dogs in India have been hailed as heroes as they fought a deadly snake for almost two hours to prevent the reptile from entering the home.
The canines attacked the reptile in a bid to protect their owner, media reports said Tuesday. The dogs ripped the snake apart, but were bitten several times during the face-off. They died within minutes of being bitten by the reptile, media outlet Times Now reported.
On Sunday, the two dogs were guarding their owner's house in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh when the reptile slithered to the doorstep. The canines, named Sheroo and Coco, started barking when they spotted the black snake. Despite the threat, the snake continued to slither toward the main door of the house.
"The fight between the dogs and the snake continued for almost two hours and finally the dogs managed to rip the snake into two parts. They were bitten several times by the snake during the fight and both died a few minutes later," the security guard of the house told Times Now.
Hearing the constant barks of the dogs, the neighbors gathered near the house. The dogs' owners also came out of the house and tried to stop the canines from attacking the snake. However, they continued to tackle the snake and finally managed to kill the reptile.
"We are unable to come to terms with the death of our Sheroo and Coco. They gave up their lives to save us and we will never forget their sacrifice," the pets' veterinarian told reporters. He was not identified by the media outlet. The family cremated the dogs on Monday, Jagran reported [Google Translate].
This is not the first time dogs have shown how faithful they are toward their owners.
Last month, a woman found her dog face-to-face with a deadly snake that had entered the family's backyard. The woman heard her dog barking continuously in the yard and rushed outside. She saw the dog trying to scare the reptile. The woman managed to get the dog away from the snake and called local snake catchers.
