Deadpool Fans Raise Petition For Marvel Superhero To Host ‘Saturday Night Live’
The massive success of the movie “Deadpool” has pushed the said Marvel superhero to popular heights. Many fans are now asking to see more of the Merc with the Mouth and a recent online petition may potentially have him appear in the late night comedy show “Saturday Night Live” (SNL).
Deadpool fan Andrew Stege has raised a petition at Change.org asking SNL showrunners, as well as Ryan Reynolds, to have the Marvel superhero host the show, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In the petition, Stege pointed out that Reynold’s Deadpool has already appeared in many billboards, magazine covers and viral videos. The next potential move for the actor was to “host Saturday Night Live as Deadpool,” Stege stated.
“How would this not be hilarious having Deadpool in sketches, breaking the 4th wall, and inserting some of his brand of humor (obviously toned down a bit for network television)!?!?! … Depending on the musical guest, how awesome would it be to have some Deadpool interpretive dancing while the musical guest was playing? There's unlimited possibilities!!!” Steve added.
Stege’s Change.org petition has so far reached more than 48,000 supporters. Stege’s target was to have 50,000 people sign the online petition.
Apart from Stege’s SNL hosting petition, Canadian resident and Deadpool fan Luke Oliver also raised a Change.org petition, ComicBook.com reported. Oliver’s request was for the Regina city council to allow construction of a Deadpool statue in the Marvel superhero’s Canadian hometown of Sasquatchuwon.
“We are demanding that a Deadpool statue be erected in Regina, Saskatchewan as we are his hometown, and we are proud to be,” Oliver wrote in his Change.org petition. The petition has reached more than half of its target 5,000 supporters with a little over 3,000 signatures.
Reynolds’ “Deadpool” has broken several records and earned more than $132 million over the four-day President’s Day weekend. It is expected to earn more in the coming weeks.
