‘Dear White People’ Premiere, Meet The Netflix Cast
Netflix has released its newest original series, “Dear White People,” based off the 2014 movie of the same name. The series follows the struggles students of color face while attending a predominantly white Ivy League college.
Set at the fictional Winchester University, the show follows a group of students as they navigate the tricky landscape at their school. According to Netflix, it picks up where the movie left off, as the students deal with social injustice, cultural bias, political correctness and other issues which affect their daily lives.
So who are the actors and actresses who will be taking on these roles? Take a look at the list below to learn more about each person and their role in the series.
John Patrick Amedori as Gabe
Gabe is Samantha White’s secret lover who wants to take their relationship to the next level, but gets pushed aside when Sam’s movement begins gaining ground.
Brandon P. Bell as Troy Fairbanks
Bell is reprising his role of Troy Fairbanks from the original film. Troy is the son of the dean of students and a political science major who is also trying to become the university’s first black student president.
Logan Browning as Samantha White
Samantha is a biracial film major who is caught up in a political movement on campus thanks to her radio show, “Dear White People.” As she’s pursued by several black student groups to become their spokeswoman, Sam starts realizing how much she needs to speak up for herself and her real beliefs.
Ashley Blaine Featherson as Joelle Brooks
Joelle is Sam’s best friend who seems content with standing aside while Sam continues to rise in popularity on campus. However, she will soon start coveting her friend’s life.
DeRon Horton as Lionel Higgins
Lionel is a nerd and student journalist struggling with his sexuality, who writes the story about a blackface party that rocks the school to its core and starts the political movement.
Marque Richardson as Reggie
Richardson reprises the movie role of Reggie, Sam’s right hand man and a radical voice at the college.
Antoinette Robertson as Coco Conners
Coco Conners is an economics major who doesn’t understand the hierarchy of black students at the school, which sees a knockout beauty like herself near the bottom. She will be an antagonist who doesn't quite agree with the message of Samantha’s show.
“Dear White People” begins streaming Friday, April 28 on Netflix.
