Decapitated Body Discovered In Mississippi After Dog Seen Chewing On A Severed Arm
Authorities found a decapitated body in Jackson, Mississippi, after a street dog was reportedly spotted carrying a severed arm in his mouth.
The cops received a report of a dog chewing what appeared to be a severed human arm on a street near the abandoned house in the woods in the 4000 block of Terry Road on Saturday, WAPT reported.
Upon reaching the scene, they recovered a dismembered body from the abandoned house, Jackson Deputy Police Chief Deric Hearn said in a news release, according to CBS News.
Authorities also recovered the arm of the victim, identified as a white male, on Middle Drive. The head of the body wasn't located as of Monday evening.
"We are actively investigating the matter," said Abraham Thompson, commander of the Jackson Investigative Service Bureau, as reported by WJTV. "We do have investigators right now at several locations to where they're following up on all leads."
Addressing a news conference, Jackson Mayor Chokwe Lumumba called it a graphic and brutal picture.
"That is a very graphic and brutal picture. Anytime anyone is harmed in any way – the (mutilation) of a body, my reaction is one of disgust, is one of concern," the mayor said. "I want to know what happened. It's not something you grow accustomed to, you ever want to grow accustomed to."
Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart said the incident was being investigated as a homicide case.
It was unclear if the victim was already dead before his body was beheaded. The name of the victim and other details in the matter were not released by the authorities amid the ongoing investigation.
According to the police chief, this was Jackson's 117th homicide of the year.
People with any information on the case are called on to contact the Jackson Police Homicide Unit at 601-960-1278 or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS(8477).
In another incident that took place earlier this month, a dog was caught on camera running down the streets of the Mexican town of Zacatecas with a human head between its jaws. As the visuals of the incident went viral on social media, local police pointed toward a connection with local drug cartel-related crimes. The head and other body parts of the deceased body were discovered by officials at an automatic teller booth in Monte Escobedo.
